Our R&D Medical Challenge
SM Magnetics was challenged to develop a permanent magnet assembly that could achieve over 2 Tesla within a defined region. After several design simulations, we developed our own 2.2 Tesla permanent magnet assembly. This assembly was immediately purchased for a research and development application in the medical industry.
Future High-Tesla Field Challenges
SM Magnetics is currently working on three additional high-field permanent magnet designs:
- > 2 Tesla over a 14″ area
- 3+ Tesla within a 10 mm square area
- 4+ Tesla over a large area
The team continues to push the magnetic materials and designs needed to meet these requirements. Each assembly will have a specific purpose based on the customer application.
Why Permanent Magnet Assemblies?
Many applications can use strong magnetic fields without the cost, complexity, and infrastructure of an electromagnet. SM Magnetics continues to receive requests for high-field permanent magnet assemblies, and our design and engineering team continues to research new methods and materials to meet them. As we introduce new findings and assemblies, we will continue to work with advanced materials to push the limits of permanent magnetic fields.
